Ink cartridges:

Using good-quality inks and media is essential for achieving the true photographic print quality. Inkjet Printers use two basic types of inks: Pigments or Dyes.

Dyes offer intense colors, but are more likely to fade than pigment based inks. Water-based pigmented inks are less likely to fade but produce less vivid colors than dye inks do.

The color or photo cartridge in all current desktop printers normally contain dye-based inks, but some manufacturers have employed pigmented black inks too. Pigmented inks usually are waterproof and more opaque than their dye based counterparts. All of the inks currently used in desktop printers are a quick dry type.

Ink cartridges can be found in various combinations, such as separate black and color cartridges, color and black in one solo cartridge (Grouped cartridge, which mixes 3 colors anywhere black is needed on the pager), or even separate cartridges for each ink color.

Lower priced Inkjets usually comes out with the grouped color cartridge. But the best is to look for a printer with a separate cartridge for each color, that way you only replace the color that runs out, without the worry of wasting the ink. Inkjets with separate ink cartridges uses a considerably lesser amount of ink to create the print than which employs grouped cartridges. Some Inkjet models employ a large ink tank, which allows you to use ink more efficiently. A number of Inkjet printers offer interchangeable black inks, which allows you to choose between the printers standard Photo Black cartridge and an optional Matte Black cartridge.

When you come close to a decision, as to which inkjet printer to buy, you should also look into how much it will cost to replace its ink cartridge. The price you pay for ink will vary on the printer you use, but it can cost you from $20 to $45 or more for replacement color- ink cartridges, and $12 to $34 for a separate black cartridge. With a few printers, the ink tanks hold both the ink and the print nozzles, which is more costly to replace than just the ink.

The most basic printers use three subtractive color inks (CMY) but high-end printers use five or even seven inks: cyan, magenta, yellow, a light cyan and a light magenta and two kinds of black, (a photo black for graphics and a pigment-based black mostly for text) to achieve more accurate photo printing. You may pay more for a six or seven color inkjet printer but you will gain in color reduction, especially in highlights and tonal gradations.

(CMYK) K stands for the black printing ink to avoid confusion with B for blue.

Color inkjet printers use these inks to place tiny dots, one on the other, creating the desired color.       When two of these dots are overprinted, they appear as red, green, or blue. When all three are surprinted, they form for example black. These different colors combined together can create photofinisher-quality colorful images. Older printers have created pictures one dot in a one-inch segment but newer models places more dots per inch, resulting in sharper, crisper images. The length of time the ink cartridge lasts will vary on the quality of the toner it contains and the number of prints you will create. The cheaper a cartridge is, the less ink it usually holds.

Color ink cartridges are the best way to create beatifull photographs.Save on your color inkjet cartridges.Ink cartridges of Photo inkjet Printers.

While standard inkjets usually employ three fundamental color inks (CMY), high-end inkjet photo printers use six or even eight inks. Some brand name inkjets like Cannon, use four separate color cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) while other brands such as Epson, work with six separate cartridges for each ink colors: the four basics plus light cyan and light magenta, resulting in more professional-looking output. The best-case scenario is to buy a printer with a separate cartridge for each color; in this case you only need to replace the color that depleted, without wasting ink.

Due to the smaller size of portable printer cartridges, they will need to be replaced more frequently, which might drive up the overall cost.

If you really expect to deliver quality output with most favorable colors, contrast, tonal range, longer-lasting prints and optimum fade-resistance from your printer, you definitely should consider this advice: Original factory-sealed ink, especially when used with their own papers, will present the exceptional quality printouts. Many of the inks and printer papers on the market are designed for particular brands of printers.

How long will your images last with the Ink?

Some printer manufacturers make specifically designed paper not only for the task of reproducing photographs, but to work with the ink to increase the life of the final printouts and make it resistant to fading overtime. Some pictures printed with pigment-based inks on the specifically designed paper could be displayed indoors for approximately 100 years before noticeable fading occurs.

Normally you can expect around 20-30 years from your printed memorabilia. Some specially formulated ink offer estimated life of 65-70 years in average indoor display conditions used with the right paper.

Quick Quiz:

Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles to spray various colors of fast-drying liquid onto the paper.

The nozzles themselves are nothing more than thousands of tiny holes on the cartridge drilled with a laser.

But how the liquid ink will stay in the nozzles without spilling out all over?
