The printer driver is the printing control part of your software. It allows you to make some simple but important settings, such as, ink color, mode, and print preview or layout for the placement of a photo on a page. It includes the option to set the paper type, such as plain paper, coated paper or transparency film that you are intending to print on. It sets the ink for the appropriate output size, and then commands the printer exactly where to place the droplets of ink on the paper to optimize print quality for the given type of paper. In addition to other extra or advanced driver settings, such as color balance, print quality, saturation, and gamma, if you really want to make your prints unique, you can even add a special watermark to clearly differentiate the print as yours.

Memory of Inkjet Printers

Most Inkjet Printers don't require, or demand little memory, usually around 2-8MB of RAM, because they do all of their processing on computers. However, where needed, with an adequate amount of memory your inkjet printer will print better at higher resolutions and may cut print time significantly. Graphical image, two sided documents and photographs can be printed more efficiently and clearly with a sharper detailed result Many inkjet printers come with built in memory, which will determine its memory capabilities but a few inkjet models are upgradeable so its memory can be extended anytime. Some multifunction inkjet printers include multiple memory slots, allowing you to easily expand the memory of the printer if needed.  But if you plan to print complex and sophisticated documents, or you intend to use the printer in workgroups with many users, you should consider purchasing an inkjet printer that has at least 16 MB of RAM.

Paper Handling of Inkjet Printers: An ink-jet printer typically stores between 50 and 150 pages in a single tray and may offer more than one trays that allows you to use and store papers of different sizes. You can adjust the trays to varying widths for well-organized paper handling. The automatic paper feeder is a helpful feature, which automatically loads multi-page documents and moves it through the printer and you wont have to feed each page by hand. Most Multifunction Inkjet printers have multiple trays that allows you to fill up to 1800 sheets of printing paper into it, and lets you use and store papers of different sizes. (Such as Executive, letter, legal, ledger, A3, A4, B4, B5, envelope sizes) Look for an inkjet printer that has at least 250 pages of input capacity and is able to work with a variety of paper types to accommodate all your printing needs.

Warranty of Inkjet Printers: Warranties typically cover parts that go wrong or break down and the labor to repair or replace these components.  Inkjet printers usually come with at least one-year warranty. Make sure that the product comes with a next-day replacement warranty. This means if the manufacturer is not able to fix your printer, a replacement unit will be sent the next business day. Many companies purchase a maintenance contract to minimize expensive downtime and even more expensive service calls.

Wondering if you use Refill inks and refill kits from a third party, will it void your warranty?

The answer is definitely not . It would be illegal for a manufacturer to void your warranty simply for using third party refill kits or bulk ink.The Trade Practices Act protects consumers who use these third party refill kits and remanufactured inkjet cartridges. See parts bellow:

No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the commission if:

1. The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and

2. The Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.

However be aware, if a repair made necessary by third party refill kits, the manufacturer can charge you for the cost of the service but that still doesn't void your warranty. Buy third party inks and inkjet cartridges from a trustworthy supplier who will stand behind their products.

Price of Inkjet Printers: The price has dropped in recent years so inkjet printers range anywhere from $55 to $850, making even color inkjet printing an affordable alternative. The trendy Inkjet Printers are reasonably priced, capable of printing high quality color photos and provides further flexibility. For Personal Inkjets, you can expect to pay between $55-$190.  The price tag on photo printers usually state a bit higher charges, between $ 80-$850. Portable models range from $200 for non-color thermal transfer printer to $350 for a color ink-jet type. An entry size Multifunction Printer costs from $120 but you may pay around $600 for a larger desktop multifunction unit. And a High volume model, such as a wide format Inkjet Printer can run from $1400-  up to ten thousand..
