The HP Deskjet 5850 printer features the revolutionary photo resolution enhancement technology, the Photo Ret IV, to help deliver vivid, true-to-life photos up to 4800 dpi x 1200 dpi resolution.

The HP Deskjet 5850 printer employs two separate ink cartridges. The first 17 ml tricolor cartridge contains full dye-load inks in cyan, magenta, and yellow, developed specifically to produce vibrant colors. The second 19 ml cartridge contains a specially formulated dye-based black ink. If you switch the three-color photo cartridge in place of the black, the printer can provide six-color photo printing.

The printer automatically realigns its print heads and stores the calibration settings in its memory.

HP supplies a Print cartridge protector to prevent the ink in used cartridges from drying out after they've been removed.

A little about Interface and connectivity options

The HP5850 is compatible with Windows 98, SE, ME, NT and 2000 and XP systems as well as Macintosh OS 9.x and OS X v10.1+.

The software installation on a Windows XP PC was simple and without problems. Just put the CD in the drive and follow the instructions.

Although the USB and Ethernet connections are simple, to accomplish the setup and get the wireless connection working can get a bit frustrating, especially for Mac users.

Apple's Rendezvous may have trouble to find the printer, which sometimes makes impossible to configure the HP DeskJet 5850 Printer on a Wireless Network.

Tip: The 5850 printer may have trouble to function in conjunction with a personal firewall software, so disabling your personal firewall might help to reduce the required time in the set up process.
