The basis weight is, the weight of 500 sheets of paper cut to a basic size Therefore, 500 sheets of 25"x 38", 60# offset will weigh 60 lbs. Heavy paper generally refers to paper that is greater than 105 g/m2 in weight.

The type of paper you choose can add to the photograph's overall look
.

If you hold the printed picture, its surface, its color and the papers weight, unknowingly there will be a psychological impact on its appearance. Heavier, thicker papers feels more substantial and more likely gives you the look and feel of a photographic print from a conventional photo lab.

If you intend to hand your photos a lot, such as passing them around to friends and family, you may need a heavy weight paper that offers sturdiness and durability.

If you are worried about fingerprints, a coating or varnish on a paper is the best choice.

Runnability means the ability of the paper to get through the printer. Photo papers are heavier and thicker than classic multi-purpose papers and it affects runnability.  So some printers may not handle these thicker papers well, particularly if the printer doesn't have a straight paper path. Using the straightest paper path in your printer might also improve feeding reliability, print quality and makes faster first printout time.

Some high-end printers offer multiple paper paths but the best thing to do is to look for a model with straight-through paper path that allows the printer to print on the paper without bending it.
