The
network laser printer deviates from their personal laser
counterparts in more than just size and speed. The network
printer usually equipped with a faster processor (Between
33MHz to 400MHz), rendering
chip and a satisfying amount of
memory so it will be able to process sophisticated
documents quickly and accomplish a steady line up of print jobs
from multiple users.
High-speed throughput is achievable
because a dedicated processor controls the time-consuming job of
rendering.
Workgroup printers often have
comprehensive paper handling options and even have the ability
to print on both sides of a page that might save a you
considerable amount of paper. These so called duplex
printers turns the paper over and prints on both sides in
one pass.
Although you can achieve the same thing manually, by changing
the print options in the printer's properties, or printing one
side and taking that same paper and reinsert it into the printer
to print on the other side, but it requires considerably more
time. Many Laser printers have
resizable envelope feeders and
multiple trays that allows you to fill
more than 1800 sheets of
paper into it, and lets you use
and store papers of different sizes, from normal sized papers to
envelopes.
How can you
decide whether to buy a low-end or a high-end laser? First,
determine how many pages per month your network group normally
prints. Then determine how quickly your group will need them.
Most networking groups consisting of five or six people work
well with 17 to 24 ppm. A standard workgroup laser printer
producing 17 ppm averages between $1,000 and $1,500. Add the
cost of replacing toner cartridges to the equation, and you get
a good idea of the total cost of ownership.
Try to choose a network printer
that has more than 250 pages of input capacity and able to work
with a variety of paper types to accommodate all your printing
needs. Inserting or changing
paper in a printer, which is in the other room can be
a bit frustrating.
Many
network printers include built-in
Web pages, which permits you to verify the status and change
settings from the network by
connecting to its IP address with a Web browser or telnet
even if the printer is not in the same
room.
For a good
example, check out the HP LaserJet 5100tn Network
Laser Printer
The HP LaserJet 5100tn printer series is ideal for any office
wanting to add fast, wide-format printing to its capabilities
without sacrificing productivity or print quality. HP LaserJet
engineering and solid design ensure worry-free printing on a
variety of media types and sizes at a reasonable price.
Today's
network laser printers offer many special features.
Printer manufacturers are incorporating other paper handling
devices onto laser printers, allowing users to purchase
much more versatile printing machines. For example some of the
network laser printers are blessed with some features of the
well known copiers, such as duplexing, stapling, collating,
offsetting and sorting.
Other
handy features include the ability to send printing job commands
via the Internet while on the road (allowing documents to be
printed on your office printer) and "walk-up wireless" printing
via infrared receivers. To print from a peripheral with an
infrared beam, such as from a PDA, simply point the device at
the printer's infrared receiver and start printing.
One of the things you
can do to save on the networking cost is take an advantage of
wireless connectivity. The cost of implementing a wireless
solution to provide the needed connectivity to your printing
network, will be far less than the costs involved in extending
your physical cables to the printer. And besides , your
employees won't trip on the cables.
All the network printers
come with software,
which manages and configures
printers from across
the network. These utilities
provide configuration capabilities and printer-status
information for users and administrators.It
can inform users from their desktop computer if the network
printer is out of paper, on-line, or busy with someone else's
print job, and even
allows you to see what jobs are active
on all queues.
Some printers are
named as "Networkable," meaning they come with a network card
slot and can be attached to a network. These laser printers are
Networkable and somewhat cheaper than that of the real network
printers, but beware out with these printers because the
manufacturer saved the usually built-in chip that is essential
for networking, so with Networkable printers you'll also
have to buy a pricy networking card (around $450) if you choose
one of these
models.
If you considering to choose one of
these Networkable models you should see the network ready
color LaserJet 3700n
that is capable of printing all your employees'
projects, from one page flyers to 100 page reportsin brilliant
and beautiful color. Key convenience of this Networkable printer
include HP Smart printing technology and HP's latest laser
technology.
Once you
determine the kinds of media and paper sizes you and your staff
will use, plus your monthly volume, and possible features, you
can find the right network laser printer to meet those
needs.
