See the pros and cons of creating a blog for boosting search engine rankings of my inkjet cartridge selling website. I will share some tips and tricks that I learned along the way and the advantages and disadvantages of creating a blog to promote your business. This can get interesting.

My name is Laszlo Sztancs. I own and operate this new website named 1printer supply.com.

Besides, that I sell inkjet cartridges, refill kits, refill inks and other related products, my websites provide useful information on the topic. Now thats for the sales pitch.

 But I wondered how should I promote my business?

Well, may be I just need a couple of cardboard signs with arrows that said: cheap inkjet cartridges.---> And if business was slow, I could go door to door, and let my customer base know I am actively in business.?? Nopp, I think I might need a more effective approach to help spread the word! So I came to the decision, that instead of hunting for cardboard signs in my garage I might just to start a blog.  

I knew that fresh, constantly updated content gets a special spot in Google's heart and I dont mind writing on the subject that is basically my business. But I write the articles not only for search engine purposes but because I would like to help people find the right information. I already wrote many printer and printer supply articles that provides guidelines on how to buy and use inkjet and laser printers and gives insides on how to save considerably on feeding your inkjet printers.  

However, because the bloging-world is relatively new I had a few questions in my mind.

I was wondering why should I start a totally new blog with zero PR when I can just write articles to my existing website that already has a PR4?  I mean what advantages a blog can offer besides that a visitor could post comments on my printer related articles? I could just simply write the article to my site and wait until the search engines index it. It would also improve my ranking overtime and I would not have to mess with a totally new blog and hope that some day it will have a good pr?!?

 Well, while some of you might wonder about the same things let me tell you the conclusion that I come to, by searching for the information on the net.

 Blogs can be a powerful tool; allowing you to communicate and real-time interact with a significant number of potential consumers or those who are already purchased from your company and using your products or services.Blogs can generate traffic without search engines. (With search engines it can be even better.) Readers don't have to waste time going to the sites that interest them every day. They just sign up for an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed using a news aggregator like NewsGator, SharpReader, or RSS Bandit, and they get notified when something has been updated. And just simply read the posts that were made in the last 24 hours. It is fairly easy to track and monitor hundreds of websites without any advertisements, worrying about email spam or disturbing popups.

 Some blogs automatically creates rss-feeds, which could be helpful in indexing new pages in your existing website, which could otherwise take weeks if not months with yahoo and Google. Just create a post with links to your existing website and put the automatically created RRS feed in your add to My Yahoo page. The pages that you provided links to in your post will be indexed by yahoo in 24 hours.

Blogs are new and useful tools; it can add a new dimension to your marketing with many benefits. A blog could engage your readers in a conversation that will help build their trust and encourage them to come back regularly. You can write your own thoughts and viewpoints about your company and its products and possibly influence decisions of your customers positively. So basically, effective blogger shares useful information and listens to the feedbacks, which could provide him (or her) with food for thought on what aspects he could improve in the business.

And if you dont mind the work that is involved with it, a successfully managed blog can develop a community that is interested in your business. To mention work, lets talk about the cons of running a blog. Is it free advertisement? Yes, but not exactly. You can Set up a free account at any blog services, and you see right away that the cost of publishing has fallen practically to zero. But, and now comes the bad part. It is not exactly free; it involves huge amounts of time, dedication and constant attention from your part or from anyone who runs it for you.  It is kind of like running a forum. If you dont update it both its Page rank and your visitors interest will drop overtime.

Secondly, despite that blogs are search engine friendly and relatively easy to use (No knowledge of HTLM needed), I think blogs still are in their early stage of development. Many of them lack in aesthetics and usability and unfortunately if you are not a guy with an IT degree, there is not much you can do about it. But after all, blogs are FREE and they exist because of dedication of those talented and highly motivated individuals who have the courage for creating something that can redefine the way we use internet and helps to fulfill its mission of providing public access to information in a staggering variety of topics. Blogs can help your business to give that honest personal touch and provide a fresh and sincere perspective that your potential costumers might like.
